The WHTC is an interpretive center and Iowa welcome center. It was built by the National Park Service in 1997 to interpret the opening of the west and specifically the Lewis and Clark, Mormon Pioneer, California and Oregon Trails. Council Bluffs was a starting point for many pioneers who traveled these trails. We have a theater, exhibit hall, and certified Iowa travel guides.
