At the very root of the park service mission and goals are the values of stewardship and service. From the very beginning these two values have been the guiding principles of the South Carolina State Park Service.

The park service members serve as responsible stewards of the diverse natural and cultural resources entrusted to the SC State Park Service, and they provide quality customer service to their customers.

Message From the Director

Our theme is Come Out & Play, and each month in his column, Phil Gaines, the director of the SC State Park Service will give you another reason to enjoy your great state parks. Make sure you check in to see what is going on each month.

Park Service Profiles

Of course if you've been to a park, you have met a park ranger, or some important member of our team!  But if you'd like to learn more about the men and women who work in your 47 state parks, up front and behind the scenes --this is the place. Each month we will interview a different park service employee -- each with a unique story.

Teams and Recognition

Our park service employees are highly trained in various areas in order to protect you while on our parks and to ensure that the natural environment is safe and enjoyable.  These park rangers and staff also participate on various special teams.  From Ceremonial Corps to ATV training, these dedicated employees take pride in serving South Carolina and their visitors.Bike Mounted Ranger

Volunteer Opportunities

The South Carolina State Parks are always looking for dedicated volunteers.  It is the only way some of the work gets accomplished on many of our parks.  From assisting with archaeology to being campground hosts,  you can find a volunteer helping out with all aspects of operating a state park.  Check out this page for volunteer opportunities at your favorite park and where you might help out.

Recycling in the Parks

In order to become an even greener state park service, we have a brand new partnership with SCDHEC, Sonoco Recycling, Inc, and Palmetto Pride. It enables us to provide a recycling program at each of the state’s 47 state parks and historical sites. Learn more about the partnership.

Resource Management

There are never a lack of resource management issues when dealing with over 80,000 acres of land and its contents. Each month a resource management expert from the state park service will update you on the latest topic from wildlife management to forestry issues.
