Silver Pines Vineyards started in 1998 is located at the western edge of the Sonoma Mountain appellation at approximately 980 feet above sea level, and is surrounded by other premium vineyards in the Sonoma Mountain AVA. We are on the north-facing slope of the new Bennett Valley AVA - a prestigious region to be sure!
The climate, soil, and water supply are ideal for the three varietals grown on the 12-acre site: Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Pinot Noir. The climate provides us with warm, sunny days moderated by an ocean breeze that travels through the Petaluma Gap and brings evening and early morning fog, which our grapes love.
The vineyard is planted in four blocks, all with 9 by 6 spacing to accommodate the gently sloping terrain. The initial vines were planted in the spring of 2000 as two-year-old dormant vines. By 2003 we had our first crop and bottled a highly acclaimed Sauvignon Blanc. In 2004 we started producing a Syrah and Pinot Noir, and with the 2005 vintage we began labeling our bottles with the new Bennett Valley designation to more sharply differentiate our wines.Sonoma Mountain is a very special place to grow grapes, enabling us to bring to you extraordinary wines.Greg La Follette is the winemaker for Silver Pines Vineyards.
