About US:
Bloomington Theatre and Art Center (BTAC) emerged from the merger of the Bloomington Civic Theatre (BCT) and Bloomington Art Center (BAC) in 2009. BCT was founded in 1955 by a group of volunteers determined to add live theater to their new city’s amenities. The theater waxed and waned over the years, performing in high school gymnasiums, churches, and other community gathering places. After moving into the Bloomington Center for the Arts in 2003, BCT grew exponentially in audience size and artistic quality.
youth clayBAC was founded in 1976 when residents came together to fill an unmet need for arts education for children and adults. Art was not a consistent part of the curriculum in Bloomington schools in that time, and children’s art classes were a popular part of BAC’s early programming. BAC also developed an exhibitions program, a children’s theater group, and a range of other initiatives. Like BCT, BAC moved into the Bloomington Center for the Arts in 2003.
Drawing on a combined legacy of more than 90 years of artistic excellence, BTAC aims to expand and further strengthen the offerings of its founding organizations in the performing arts, visual arts, and arts education.
