In conjunction with the exhibition “You Are Never Alone” we are thrilled to host studio artist Sally Kirkpatrick. Weaving a Life is an approach to weaving that uses the twisting of string between sticks as a framework for self-examination. In this workshop, we will look at the ways in which the process of weaving lends itself to this practice.

Using simple frame looms and a variety of yarns, strings, and decorative doo-dads, we will  create an amulet—a small woven pocket, as simple or complex as the weaver’s hands and imagination permit. The amulets are not in themselves powerful, as in fairy tales, but hold  instead the power and process brought by the weaver to their making.

No weaving experience is necessary. All materials will be provided. Weavers are encouraged to bring any personal strings, bling, or trinkets that they might wish to incorporate in their amulets!

Please bring a bag lunch as we will break at lunchtime.

About the instructor: Sally Kirkpatrick makes things with fiber by spinning, knitting, weaving, and felting. She prefers to use local, natural materials, including dyes. She does this work in her studio at Waterfall Arts. Sally also loves teaching, having taught Sunday School, medical residents, and a lot of folks in between.
