Zacc Harris, American Reverie:
Inspired by a return to his former home near the Shenandoah Mountains in 2015, Minneapolis-based guitarist Zacc Harris launched American Reverie, a project that bridges the rich traditions of American folk music with the nuanced sophistication of modern jazz. Drawing from the deep well of Americana, Harris reimagines well-known folk standards through a contemporary jazz lens—offering a heartfelt reflection on a "lost America" while showcasing his signature melodic sensitivity and improvisational depth.

The trio, featuring longtime collaborators Matt Peterson on bass and Lars-Erik Larson on drums, released their debut album in 2017 to critical acclaim. City Pages described it as "a collection of smart contemporary jazz interpretations of folk standards... Harris’ eloquent guitar work highlights pointed commentary with a deft array of melodic abstractions, tempo shifts, and harmonic changes." All About Jazz praised the project’s "understated warmth" and "fresh twists" on timeless material.

A central figure in the Twin Cities jazz scene since 2005, Harris is known both for his solo work and as a founding member of the Atlantis Quartet. He was named Best Twin Cities Jazz Artist by City Pages in 2017 and has performed across the U.S. and U.K., including appearances at London’s legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, and the Iowa City Jazz Festival. His 2021 release Small Wonders earned a 4-star review and a spot on DownBeat Magazine’s Best Albums of the Year list, and his 2024 release Chasing Shadows has been met with further critical acclaim.
