Join Virgil Historical Society President Val Ross for a pictorial voyage along the roads that now encompass Joseph Chaplin's Old State Road, the first byway through central NY's Military Tract in 1796. She’ll cover history of the road, old maps, construction, and spicy stories that occurred along it in the ensuing years. The Old State Road ran from Oxford, through McDonough, German, Moony Hill, Willet and the Otselic River, Bloody Pond, Texas Valley, Galatia, Messengerville and the Tioughnioga River, Horse-Killer Hill, Virgil, McLean, Peruville, Malloryville, Lansing, Ludlowville, and Cayuga Lake at Myers Park.

Bring your own lunch if you wish, and we will provide a beverage and dessert. Admission is free for members of the Cortland County Historical Society (CCHS) and $5 for CCHS members-to-be.

This event will take place at the former Free Methodist Church at 9 Grace Street, Cortland.
