Histoire du Tango

Guitar performance, Argentinian Food, and Tango lessons!

David Ross (guitar) and Rohan Gregory (violin) will perform Astor Piazzolla's Histoire du Tango, an homage to the great dance form by one its greatest composers. The Histoire presents the history and evolution of the tango in four distinct movements, each tracing the musical and aesthetic elements that define the music through the ages. "Bordel, 1900" demonstrates the lively dance form as it originated in Buenos Aires in 1882, followed by a more concertized version in "Café, 1930", then a cosmopolitan, fusion version as tango meets bossa nova in "Nightclub, 1960", and finally, tango as high art, mingled with contemporary composition approaches of Bartok and Stravinski in "Concert d'aujord'hui". Piazzolla was in many ways the heart of the tango in the 20th century and the Histoire du Tango is a breath-taking display of his craft as well as the art and passion of tango itself.
