Sunday Schmooze: Five Easy Pieces

In this searing character study from director Bob Rafelson, Jack Nicholson stars as Bobby Dupea, an aimless thirtysomething oil worker and former piano prodigy immune to any sense of responsibility. But when Bobby discovers that his father is gravely ill, he wants to reunite with his estranged upper-middle-class family. With his blue-collar girlfriend (Karen Black, in an Oscar-nominated role) in tow, he takes a road trip that brings the two paths of his life to an uncomfortable intersection.
