The River Friends of the Library will be holding its September Book and Bake Sale in honor of log-time Guerneville resident and author, Dorothy Allison. Ms. Allison resided in both Monte Rio and Guerneville for many years. She is most famous for her novel, ******* Out of Carolina, published in 1992. She was an ardent feminist and out lesbian. In 1998 she founded the Independent Spirit Award for individuals who work with small presses and Independent Bookstores. The award is administered by the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. She has also won two Lambda Literary Awards for her short story collection, Trash. She appreciated libraries as well as independent bookstores and has donated most of her book collections - including books signed by other writers whom she admired - to the River Friends. Her books and our usual collection of donated materials will be part of this book and bake sale.
Most books and other materials are $1.00. Specially priced materials are priced as marked. Children's and Teen materials are 50 cents or 3 for a dollar. Home-baked goods will also be for sale. Come support a worthy cause - your local public library!
