About This Program:
For the first time since 2017, former Artistic Partner Thomas Zehetmair reunites with the SPCO for one of the greatest symphonies of all-time, Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony. Though this program takes its title from Mozart’s last and longest symphony, nicknamed posthumously after the Roman god for its grandness, don’t let that eclipse another blockbuster hit on this 67th opening weekend. On the heels of one of Zehetmair’s own compositions, Concertmaster Steven Copes and Principal Cello Julie Albers team up for Brahms’ Double Concerto—a thrilling back-and-forth between violin and cello that both milks the lowest notes and dances up the finger board, all while keeping you on the edge of your seat.
