Frontera Bugalu epitomizes the homogeneity of sounds and very real experiences and struggles of daily life living along both sides the worlds largest binational borderplex of the Texas-Mexico border: Influenced by the "rebajada" "sonidero" and "sonora" cumbia styles that spread across Mexico in mercados and street parties, and the conjunto and "Tex-Mex" stylings of Fito Olivares and Selena that could be heard on radio stations across the Southwest, Frontera Bugalu was born in 2009 with a goal of honoring these influences and to create a unique blend of cumbia that could go well in a family house party, quinceañera, dive bar or international music festival.
El Paso, TX and Cd Juarez, Mexico has long been known for its own unique DIY underground punk, rock, ska, and heavy metal music scenes, and likewise drawing from these influences, Frontera Bugalus' mix of verterán musicians is known for their high energy live performances that would have your abuelo dancing along side your teenage siblings. Frontera Bugalu has recently shared the stage with acts like Son Rompe Pera, Mexican Institute of Sound and Sonido Gallo Negro, with recent touring highlights including performances at the World Music Festival in Boston, Lotus Fest in Indianapolis, and attending the Epidemic Sound Latin Music Summit in Mexico City.
