Independence Day Celebration in Historic Port Royal, Virginia

Celebrate Independence Day in Historic Port Royal on the Rappahannock River, surrounded by 18th- and 19th-century homes and structures. After the annual delivery of The Declaration of Independence, famed seamstress Ms. Betsy Ross will a legendary visit from Gen. George Washington. In the afternoon, Dr. Philip Levy - George Washington historian and archaeologist - will share more tales about Washington, based on years of documentary and archaeological research. Throughout the day, mingle with living historians, enjoy the seafaring songs of the Rappahannock Whalers, the pomp of the MacLeod Clan Pipes and Drums, and demonstrations by traditional tradespeople and craftsmen. Children will enjoy a puppet presentation of The Boston Tea Party and the Kid’s Craft Corner. Everyone will enjoy free wagon rides around the historic village and lunch from Big Jon’s Dogs, BBQ, and Italian Ice. This event, sponsored by The Caroline County Board of Supervisors and Historic Port Royal, Inc., is free and open to all.
