This exhibition from the Mulvane permanent collection explores how we think of the United States as a nation, including American values, ideals, and dreams. It presents a conversation between objects that range from idealistic visions of America to more pessimistic views. The works, which span styles, mediums, and time periods, consider different conceptions of the nation. Some picture America as a land of peace and plenty, while others highlight national issues of violence and economic disparity. Together, they present a complex narrative about our shared national identity.
In This Place: American Dreams is the first of four exhibitions from 2024 to 2026 that explore American histories, experiences, and identities through the Mulvane collection.
