Victoria Abbott Riccardi has always loved animals. She grew up with two beloved cats and adores her female Coton de Tulear dog, BiBi. Some of her favorite books feature animals, including Sheila Burnford’s The Incredible Journey and Sy Montgomery’s The Good Good Pig. Treasured films include My Octopus Teacher and Hachi: A Dog’s Tale. What tugs at her heartstrings is the innocence and innate goodness of animals.

Sadly, many creatures suffer greatly at the hands of humans, whether it’s being held captive in zoos or being bred for food. Through her mixed media artworks, Victoria aims to elevate and glorify animals by depicting them in near-human ways. She hopes her whimsical and humorous artworks with accompanying poems will inspire others to appreciate each creature’s unique and special qualities.

Victoria often works on wood panels and uses various papers, including Japanese rice paper. Other mediums include cold wax, acrylics, oils and ink. In addition to this figurative series, she creates abstract works, which you can view on her website: www.victoriariccardistudio.com
