Earth Day Family Celebration

Saturday, Apr 20, 2024 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Spokane Public Library
906 West Main Avenue
509-444-5300

Families are invited to celebrate our planet at Spokane Public Library’s Earth Day Family Celebration.

Local environmental groups will have fun and educational activities for children and families to learn about recycling, conservation, and other topics related to protecting our planet. Some activities include making a recycled t-shirt bag with shirts from Global Neighborhood Thrift, planting seeds with Spokane’s Master Gardeners, and more.

"Our activity, ‘We Art Nature’, where kids will make faces out of natural items, is all about changing the perception of humans as sitting outside of nature,” said Elyse Hochstadt, Executive Director at Spokane Zero Waste. “When we see ourselves as part of the planet and part of the cycles of nature, we feel connected and make different decisions about how we live and interact with all beings of Earth."

The first 300 visitors will be given a free Ponderosa Pine tree plug to plant in their own yard.

"Engaging with environmental organizations gives kids and families the important opportunity to see for themselves the many real-life problem solvers and fixers who are actively engaged with caring for our natural world,” said Mason Neil, Youth Environmental Specialist at Spokane Public Library. “Families will walk away from our Earth Day Celebration with a deeper appreciation for our planet home, and a greater understanding for the role we each play in preserving our collective resources for a bright and beautiful future."
