Now in his 80s, celebrated NASA engineer and best-selling science fiction author Gentry Lee acts as pilot and narrator as he marvels with child-like wonder at his good fortune. Discovered at a young age to be a math wizard while calculating baseball batting averages, he was ushered through the elusive door that led to space travel and his life’s work at NASA.

Academy Award® nominated Director Robert Stone magnificently illustrates decades of scientific research around space travel, life on other planets, Lee’s work with Carl Sagan, his unexpected co-writing career with foremost science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke (2001: A Space Odyssey), and his somewhat unconventional beliefs as a free thinker as well as those that helped shape his life while a principal player in space exploration from the very beginning.
