Carole Raymond: Intro to Oil Painting

This oil painting class for the beginner to the intermediate painter is a fun, no-experience, stress-free class. We will go through each part of the painting process in a logical sequence, focusing on the needs of the individual student. Essentials will be covered including setting up your palette, supplies and how to care for them, as well as key principles of color mixing and composition. We will work from still-life setups and photographs. This class is presented in a way that moves you confidently from your first strokes to your finished paintings.

SUPPLIES:

Artist Oil Paints:  recommended brands = Winsor Newton, Rhembrant, Grumbacker, Utrecht or any other professional oil paints.  Winsor Newton’s Winton brand is ok for beginner class. Colors:  lemon yellow or cad yellow light, cad yellow med, yellow ochre, cad, orange, cad red light, cad red med, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, viridian, burnt sienna, Titanium white.

Brushes:  #4 & #8 flat long bristle brushes – and - A throw-away household 2” bristle brush

Palette 11x14 glass or palette pad

Surface:  5 (8x10 or 11x14) canvas panels or stretched canvases (no larger)

Other:  Turpenoid (odorless mineral spirits), palette knives, sketch book and note book, small hand-held mirror, box to carry wet paintings, paper towels, cotton rags, baby oil
