Art Unleashed: Creativity You Can FEEL! and "The Realm of Smaller Things: A Storybook Adventure by Kent Knowles"
Main Gallery: "Art Unleashed: Creativity You Can FEEL!" is a family-friendly, touchable art exhibition for all abilities. The exhibition has been curated to include pieces created specifically for this exhibition as well as art on loan from artists across the nation. Among the exhibition collection are bronze relief replicas of famous masterpieces such as "The Starry Night" and "Girl with a Pearl Earring", stackable soft sculptures, a joyful tufted series, and bronze sculptures.
The summer exhibition also includes a large Maker Space, where guests of all ages and abilities can create their own art from sensory materials like buttons, pipe cleaners, pom-poms and more. The Maker Space is generously sponsored by AAUW North Harris County Branch.
"Art Unleashed" is an especially unique opportunity for guests who are blind or low vision. Dallas-based artist Thomas Bustos re-creates iconic masterpieces as bronze reliefs, and the exhibition includes several of his replica masterpieces, such as "Mona Lisa," "The Starry Night," and "Girl with a Pearl Earring." While all visitors are able to touch his artwork, it is especially meaningful for guests who have never seen these masterpieces with their eyes.
Other art includes the "Holdables" collection of soft sculptures by Stephanie Metz of California; "JOY," a specially designed tufting series by Sam Lao of Dallas, who was a lead artist for "The Real Unreal" exhibition at Meow Wolf in Dallas; a series of fun textured paintings by Baltimore artist Rosy Sunshine Galvan; bronze sculptures from Found Fine Art in Bastrop, Texas; and works from the "Weird Plants" series of fiber art by Marsha Borden of Connecticut.
