Mahler Symphony No. 3

Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 7:30pm to 9:30pm
Norwalk Concert Hall
125 East Avenue

“It is a thrill and an honor to once again lead our wonderful Norwalk Symphony Orchestra in one of Gustav Mahler’s immortal masterpieces,” says Jonathan Yates. “The Mahler Third is epic, spanning as it does six movements. From the majestic opening of the first movement to the tender intimacy of the last, you will be swept away by the symphony's power and beauty.”

This concert closes out Maestro Yates's 13th season with the Symphony. In prior years, he has captivated audiences with other Mahler Symphonies, the First in 2014, the Second in 2019, and the Fifth in 2022. These performances have evinced standing ovations not only for their technical prowess, but also for their extraordinary emotional impact.

“For this performance, we are assembling perhaps the largest musical force ever to grace the Norwalk Concert Hall, with extra brass, woodwinds, strings, and every non-electric percussion instrument ever imagined.  We are welcoming back Alto Ann Quintero, who we heard in the Mahler Second five years ago. The Fifth Movement will feature The Fairfield County Children’s Choir and the Fairfield County Chorale.”

As is traditional, a five-minute pause at the end of the first movement will be observed.
