Gayla Lemke: "Down the Rabbit Hole"
Sometimes when making art, the focus is on the "making." Through the process of creating, a body of work emerges, feeding off each piece and continuing to grow. There is something about the obsession of making.
The evolution of "Down the Rabbit Hole" came about by visiting old ways of working, using a different approach with each. Starting with the figure and then being reminded of something else, the plunge down the rabbit hole began. Faces then busts, then houses, a book, and through it all, clay prints. Somehow it all tied together visually.
As time went by and current events became more disturbing, certain pieces took on new meaning. Falling down the rabbit hole of news cycles, other distractions and fear of the future politically, connected with falling down the rabbit hole of just making art. Perhaps there is no way to separate them and art making is a way of staying sane.

Katie Hoffman: "Eclipse"
These new oil paintings were created while I anticipated a road trip toward the path of totality for the April solar eclipse.
Familiar themes of women, birds, and cats predominate. I was delighted to collaborate with Gayla Lemke on three works of art in this show.
